The weather remains very mixed this Wednesday, June 10th. While a few showers persist in parts of the northeast, sunshine is widespread around the Mediterranean where temperatures are already reaching summer levels. The mistral wind is also strengthening, increasing the risk of wildfires in several areas of the southeast.
The latest rainfall is mainly affecting a large northeastern quarter of the country, from Upper Normandy to Alsace, including Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Elsewhere, the weather is gradually improving with the return of sunny spells, particularly in the western regions throughout the afternoon.
The sun shines brightly on Provence, the French Riviera, and Corsica, where the atmosphere is decidedly summery. However, the mistral wind is blowing strongly, with gusts reaching 80 to 90 km/h locally between the Luberon and the Haut-Var. This situation increases the risk of wildfires in the most exposed areas.
Temperatures will show strong contrasts. It will only reach 15 to 20°C in the northern half of the country, from Brest to Strasbourg, and 20 to 24°C in the southwest. Conversely, the thermometer will climb to 30°C in the Provençal hinterland, on the French Riviera, and in Corsica. Temperatures will remain up to 7°C below normal in the northeast, while locally they will exceed seasonal averages by 4 to 9°C around the Mediterranean coast.
