After a brief summer break on Sunday, the weather deteriorates sharply this Monday, June 9th, across much of France. The retreat of the Azores High and the meeting of warm air rising from the Mediterranean and cooler air from the British Isles are creating a period of unsettled weather that will affect three-quarters of the country.
The areas most exposed to thunderstorms are located from the southern Massif Central to the east of the country. Throughout the afternoon and evening, sometimes severe thunderstorms may develop over the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté regions, with a localized risk of hail. Further north, areas near the English Channel will mainly experience rain and very cloudy skies.
The situation will be more favorable near the Mediterranean, where the weather will remain dry despite occasional hazy skies. Occitanie will also maintain a summery feel with increasing cloud cover throughout the day, but without significant rainfall. Between Poitou, the Paris Basin, the Ardennes, and Lorraine, the sky will quickly become very cloudy before the possible arrival of some rain in the evening.
Temperatures will remain high before the weather deteriorates. Lows will range from 12 to 15°C at sunrise, while highs will still reach 22 to 26°C in the afternoon. The real change will occur in the evening and overnight, with the arrival of cooler air following the rain and thunderstorms.
