Weather: Up to 36°C on Tuesday before an exceptional heatwave

The heat will continue to intensify across much of France on Tuesday, June 16th. While temperatures will remain relatively bearable in the northern regions, the thermometer will climb sharply in the south and central-east, heralding a particularly hot second half of the week.

According to forecasts from La Chaîne Météo, highs will reach 35 to 36°C in the Rhône Valley, particularly around Montélimar. More broadly, temperatures will regularly exceed 30°C from the southwest to the southeast. Conversely, regions near the English Channel and north of the Seine will maintain more moderate temperatures, between 22 and 27°C.

The morning will begin with partly cloudy skies in the north, with some low clouds and a risk of light drizzle near the Ardennes. Sunshine will prevail across the southern half of the country, where the atmosphere is expected to be warm and sometimes humid from the early hours of the day.

This day could, however, offer a final respite before the arrival of a more intense heatwave. Forecasts predict a rapid northward spread of the heat from the middle of the week, with temperatures likely to exceed 35°C in several regions.

The central, western, and eastern parts of the country will be particularly affected by this rise in temperatures. Nights will also become increasingly difficult to endure, especially in large urban areas, where temperatures could remain above 20°C.
