Weather: up to 36°C this Wednesday, the heat intensifies across much of France

Under the influence of a powerful anticyclone, sunshine will prevail across the country on Wednesday, June 17th. The heat will continue to intensify, with very high temperatures in many regions, locally exceeding 35°C.

The weather will remain very stable with mostly clear skies. Some clouds may drift near the Channel coast, while there is a slight risk of thundery showers over the Pyrenees and Southern Alps at the end of the day.

Temperatures well above normal

The highest temperatures are expected in the southwest, the center of the country, the Rhône Valley, and the Mediterranean hinterland. Maximum temperatures will generally reach 34 to 36°C, with locally higher highs in the Garonne Valley.

Temperatures will often exceed seasonal norms by 6 to 10°C, and even reach 12°C in some central and southern regions. This rise in temperatures is expected to continue in the coming days, raising concerns about a prolonged heatwave across much of the country.
