VIDEO – Philippe Croizon on RTL: “It took me 7 years before I could watch myself.”

On the occasion of the film's release For the bestIn theaters on April 22nd, Philippe Croizon was Amandine Bégot's guest on RTL Midi.

During the interview, Philippe Croizon reflected on the years following his accident and the difficulty of accepting his new body. He explained that it took him seven years before he could look at his reflection, stating: "It took me seven years before I could remove the sheet from the mirror and look at myself."

He also recounted that at one time, he found it very difficult to deal with other people's stares. When he went to the beach, he preferred to have a large crowd around him when he came out of the water, so as not to be immediately exposed and to avoid people seeing him as he truly was. Philippe Croizon explained, however, that today, the gaze of others no longer holds the same importance for him. He summarized this change with a lighter phrase: "When I go to the beach, it's like a village festival."

An accident that changed his life

These revelations refer to the accident he suffered in 1994. Then 26 years old, Philippe Croizon was dismantling a television antenna on the roof of his house when he was electrocuted after coming into contact with a high-voltage power line. Severely burned, he subsequently had all four limbs amputated.

Despite this ordeal, Philippe Croizon managed to overcome it. Today, he is one of the finest examples of courage and resilience for all accident victims.
