RMC Gold: the new radio station that brings the 80s and 90s back to life
RMC

On April 2, RMC is launching RMC Gold, a 100% music-focused digital radio station dedicated to the 1980s and 1990s. Available exclusively online, this station aims to rekindle the flame of a cult era with iconic tracks, forgotten gems, and a promise of auditory comfort at a time when current events are weighing heavily on people's minds.

"We believe nostalgia has a future," said Karim Nedjari, CEO of RMC, introducing this project, designed as "RMC's joyful little sister." The goal: to provide a soothing musical bubble in the face of news that is deemed anxiety-inducing. RMC Gold will broadcast 24/24 via the RMC app, Radio Player, Apple, or TuneIn.

Max takes the microphone for a free evening broadcast

The highlight of this new station: the grand return of Max, the legendary voice of FM in the 1990s. From Monday to Thursday, from 22 p.m. to midnight, he will host "La Libre Antenne de Max," a moment of direct and unfiltered exchange, like his heyday on Fun Radio. "I didn't believe in it anymore, I had moved on," confided the 55-year-old host, now the announcer for the French national football team.

The radio station also draws on a forgotten treasure: 320 vinyl records from the Radio Monte Carlo archives, discovered in 000 in a warehouse in Courbevoie. This unique audio treasure trove promises a rich and varied program, combining legendary hits and musical rarities.

A 100% digital radio… for now

While RMC Gold doesn't yet have an FM frequency, broadcasting on DAB+ (digital terrestrial radio) is planned in the long term. Emmanuel Renard, RMC's editorial director, is targeting a broad audience, including young people in their thirties: "Music from the 80s and 90s is a hit in clubs, on platforms... It's no longer just a matter of nostalgia."

With RMC Gold, the RMC-BFM group, owned by CMA CGM, wants to prove that it does more than just inform: it also intends to entertain, thrill, and above all, reconnect generations around a unifying musical heritage.
