Air travel in France in 2025 reached a level of passenger traffic higher than before the Covid-19 crisis. According to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, 183 million passengers traveled to or from the country on commercial flights, representing an annual increase of 2,8% and surpassing the 2019 record.
International growth is driving expansion, while domestic growth remains behind.
This performance is based almost exclusively on international routes, which now account for the majority of traffic and show a marked increase compared to the pre-pandemic period. Conversely, domestic flights continue to decline, hampered by competition from rail, the rise of teleworking, stricter environmental policies, and higher taxes on tickets.
Regional dynamics remain mixed: trade with Africa, Europe and the Americas is progressing significantly, while Asia-Pacific remains below its 2019 levels. Services to China and Japan remain particularly affected, hampered by both economic factors and constraints related to the closure of Russian airspace since the war in Ukraine.
