Lyon: A security guard from the Némésis collective is brain dead after being beaten by "antifa" activists

Quentin, a young man in his twenties, was hospitalized Thursday evening in Lyon in critical condition after being violently attacked on the sidelines of a conference given by MEP Rima Hassan at the Lyon Institute of Political Studies. He is now brain dead.

A demonstration and tensions surrounding the conference

The Némésis collective indicates that several activists had gathered near the IEP to protest against the arrival of Rima Hassan, unfurling a banner with the following message "Islamist-leftists out of our universities"Several men, including the injured young man, provided informal security to protect the activists.

The Nemesis collective accuses various far-left groups, including "La Jeune Garde," of being behind the attack. According to this organization, footage filmed Thursday evening shows some of those present Jacques-Élie Favrot, parliamentary assistant to the MP (LFI) Raphaël Arnault.

According to witnesses, Quentin, a member of the informal security detail, was allegedly followed and then violently attacked in a downtown street after an initial confrontation. His comrade, slightly injured, called for help when Quentin lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital with a brain hemorrhage.

A 19-year-old activist was also reportedly assaulted and rescued after being thrown to the ground during the same altercation.

Political reactions and support

The tragedy has sparked political reactions. National Rally MP Matthias Renault posted on X: "The far left kills. Thoughts and prayers for Quentin, beaten by antifa in Lyon, and now fighting for his life." Alice Cordier, director of the Nemesis collective, also stated on X:  The far left killsSarah Knafo, the Reconquête! candidate for mayor of Paris, added: "All my thoughts are with the victim and I support the Nemesis Collective."
