Around forty EasyJet flights departing from France are expected to be cancelled on Saturday due to a flight attendants' strike. A similar number of cancellations are anticipated for Sunday, but the final number will depend on the number of employees who declare themselves on strike. This action comes during the August 15th weekend, a particularly busy time for travel.
The SNPNC-FO, UNPNC-CFDT, and UNAC-CFE-CGC unions have called for a strike on August 14 and 15 after talks with management broke down. Their strike notice covers a longer period, from August 7 to September 2. The unions are denouncing a continuous deterioration of working conditions, including unstable schedules, last-minute changes, back-to-back flights over several days, and certain rotations deemed excessively demanding.
The company denounces an "opportunistic action"
EasyJet is asking unions to call off the strike, which it considers inopportune during one of the busiest periods of the summer. The airline states that it has proposed several adjustments to address staff demands and reiterates that negotiations are scheduled for September. It maintains that the strike is taking place outside the formal social dialogue process.
The second largest airline in France by passenger numbers, after Air France, EasyJet primarily operates short- and medium-haul flights from several bases, including Paris, Lyon, and Nice. Passengers affected by cancellations must be informed directly by the airline and offered re-routing or a refund in accordance with applicable regulations.
