An investigation has been opened after a pig's head was found on Saturday in front of the home of Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi. The prosecutor's office indicates that the investigation is focusing on threats and insults against a public official, as well as possible incitement to hatred and violence based on religion.
The pig's head was accompanied by an insulting poster showing the mayor's face with a Star of David drawn on his forehead. The mayor, a candidate for re-election in the municipal elections of March 15 and 22, posted a photo of the scene on the social network X, calling the act "abject."
Eric Ciotti's public support
His main opponent in the municipal campaign, MP Éric Ciotti, sent him a message of solidarity, denouncing an attack on human dignity and republican values. He assured the mayor and his family of his "full and unwavering support."
Christian Estrosi has regularly spoken out in support of Israel since the attacks of October 7, 2023. In particular, he had Israeli flags installed on the facade of the town hall, before removing them following a court decision.
