In a press release, Vincent Brengarth, Rima Hassan's lawyer, announced a counter-offensive after what he described as very serious revelations published by DuckThe text denounces the massive, real-time disclosure in the press of information covered by the secrecy of the investigation, as well as exchanges that took place during the measure with the spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice, who is said to be the source of the leaks.
The first consequence: Rima Hassan filed a complaint today for breach of professional secrecy. According to the press release, this complaint was filed in response to the revelations of Duck and targets facts involving the spokesperson for the Department of Justice.
At the same time, lawyer Vincent Brengarth indicates that he has written to the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Justice to request the opening of administrative investigations.
CBD found during police custody was therapeutic
The press release also addresses the detention of Ms. Rima Hassan, which occurred on April 2, 2026. According to the text, CBD in the form of flowers and resin was found among her belongings. Rima Hassan, according to her lawyer, immediately explained to investigators that she had purchased these products from a shop specializing in CBD sales in Brussels.
No drugs were found in the tests.
The statement specifies that, according to initial analyses carried out by the police services, the resin contains traces of a synthetic drug.
The defense, however, puts forward another element which it considers essential: urine tests revealed no presence of such a drug in Ms. Rima Hassan's body.
The woman in question firmly denies having purchased any synthetic drugs. She maintains that her sole intention was to legally buy CBD products, a substance authorized for sale and consumption in both Belgium and France.
Steps taken to clear Rima Hassan of wrongdoing
The statement asserts that several steps have already been taken to clear Ms. Rima Hassan of any wrongdoing as quickly as possible. Proof of purchase from a specialized store has been submitted to the public prosecutor's office through her legal counsel. The defense also claims to have observed that the resin in question was still for sale at the store in question. A sample was therefore purchased and submitted to the public prosecutor's office.
Through this approach, Mr. Vincent Brengarth insists on the need to quickly carry out the analyses and investigations necessary to confirm his client's statements as soon as possible.
The defense is putting forward the theory of a deceived client.
The statement goes further: if the presence of a synthetic drug in the CBD resin purchased by Ms. Rima Hassan were to be confirmed, she could, according to the defense, be regarded as nothing other than a victim, insofar as she would have been deceived about the composition of the product.
Finally, the text indicates that Ms. Rima Hassan is considering filing a complaint against the media outlets that she believes are directly responsible for spreading false information.
Through this press release, the defense is deploying a clear strategy: to denounce the conditions under which elements of the investigation were made public, while maintaining that Rima Hassan legally purchased CBD products and that she could, if the presence of synthetic drugs were confirmed, be considered a victim rather than a suspect.
