The Paris prosecutor's office is investigating a possible foreign operation targeting LFI candidates

The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to clarify a possible foreign interference operation that targeted several candidates of La France insoumise during the 2026 municipal elections. The investigations focus in particular on disinformation and denigration campaigns disseminated online against several figures of the movement.

The allegations include false accusations circulating online, falsified campaign materials, and posts disseminated on social media and online sales platforms. Members of Parliament Sébastien Delogu, François Piquemal, and David Guiraud claim to have been directly targeted during their municipal campaigns.

The possibility of an operation carried out from Israel

According to several elements cited in the case file, this campaign was allegedly carried out from Israel by private entities mentioned in the French and Israeli press. The leaders of La France Insoumise believe they were targeted because of their support for the Palestinian cause.

The Paris prosecutor's office clarifies, however, that no formal involvement of a foreign state has been established at this stage. The investigation now aims to determine whether these operations constitute a coordinated attempt to influence the elections. The inquiries are focusing in particular on potential acts of "collusion with a foreign power," manipulation of the vote, and the dissemination of misleading content online.
