Streaming giant Netflix has announced the launch of a new children's gaming app called "Playground," marking a new step in its strategy to diversify into video games.
This app will offer games built around characters popular with young audiences, such as Peppa Pig or those from Sesame Street. The goal is to create a safe and suitable environment where parents can confidently let their children play.
According to Netflix, "Playground" aims to offer a "carefully curated" space where children can be entertained, engaged, and stimulated. This initiative is part of the company's strategy to strengthen its ecosystem beyond video streaming.
Despite these efforts, analysts believe that Netflix's video game business is not yet a major growth driver. The company suffers in particular from a less extensive catalog of franchises than some competitors like Warner Bros. Discovery, owner of strong brands such as DC Comics.
Currently, Netflix's most popular games include titles like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, as well as games inspired by its own hit productions, such as "Squid Game: Unleashed." With "Playground," the platform hopes to increase engagement among young users and solidify its position in the interactive entertainment market.
