French group Ubisoft announced a cancellation projects in development, including the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, as well as five other games. This decision follows a strategic reorganization plan aimed at strengthening financial performance and refocusing the company's creative priorities.
In an official statement, Ubisoft explained that these titles "do not meet the new, stricter quality criteria" and are no longer part of the group's revised three-year roadmap. The Prince of Persia remake, which had been announced for a 2026 release after several delays and changes in development studios, is now definitively abandoned.
The restructuring also includes postponements for seven other games, including some projects like the remake ofAssassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, which could be postponed to the 2027 fiscal year in order to "to guarantee superior quality standards."
A profound reorganization due to a difficult economic context
Ubisoft attributes these announcements to a demanding market environment for AAA games, marked by increased competition and rising development costs. The group's CEO, Yves Guillemot, explained that the industry is becoming " increasingly selective and competitivemaking a review of the internal organization and creative priorities essential.
As part of this reorganization, the company will adopt a new operating model based on five genre-specific creative divisions, each responsible for its own budgets and the management of major franchises such asAssassin's Creed, Far Cry ou Rainbow SixThis transformation is expected to take effect at the beginning of April.
According to financial estimates released alongside this announcement, Ubisoft now forecasts net revenue of approximately €1,5 billion in 2026, with an operating loss of around €1 billion, a direct consequence of cancellations and delays. The group expects its net debt to increase and plans further cost-cutting measures, including the potential sale of assets.
Several studios closed
In addition to canceling games, Ubisoft confirmed the closure or restructuring of several of its studios worldwide. Locations such as Ubisoft Halifax and Ubisoft Stockholm were affected, and the company indicated it would continue to adapt its organization in line with strategic objectives.
The company clarifies, however, that the abandonment of the remake of Prince of Persia does not mean a renunciation of the franchise itself, leaving the door open for future incarnations in a different form.
In parallel, Ubisoft is postponing the release of several projects not yet publicly identified, in order to "Maximize long-term value" and to ensure that the final titles meet the quality standards now required by management.
