Olympics - France takes gold in biathlon: Julia Simon wins gold, Lou Jeanmonnot silver

On Wednesday, France achieved a one-two finish in the women's 15km individual biathlon event. Julia Simon emerged as Olympic champion, while Lou Jeanmonnot completed the success by winning the silver medal.

French dominance in Olympic biathlon is confirmed, and Julia Simon has established herself as the standout athlete of this edition. The 29-year-old biathlete from Savoy won her first-ever individual medal at the Games on Wednesday, taking gold in the individual event held in Anterselva. With a shooting score of 19/20, she finished ahead of her compatriot Lou Jeanmonnot, ultra-fast on skis and achieving the best time of the race, but penalized by two errors on the shooting range (18/20), which still gave her the silver.

Julia Simon's title was sealed by the final series of shots, where Franziska Preuss, the only one still capable of scoring 20/20 and claiming victory, made two crucial mistakes, leaving the way clear for the Frenchwoman.

Paradise after going through hell

This performance is exceptional for Julia Simon, who had a chaotic start to the season. She missed the first stage of the World Cup after a one-month suspension imposed by the Federation's disciplinary committee, related to her conviction in the credit card fraud case that had rocked the women's team for three years. A painful episode now completely forgotten!
