A call to end conflicts in the world

Since his election on May 8, the Pope has continued to repeat his calls for peace, in the purest pacifist tradition of the Vatican.
A symbolic date for the Church
This prayer for peace coincides with the 63rd anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council (October 11, 1962). This historic council was marked by international tensions, including the Cuban Missile Crisis. Pope John XXIII played a key role in de-escalating tensions between the United States and the USSR, helping to avoid a nuclear conflict.
Pope Leo XIV is also planning an apostolic journey to the Middle East, with visits to Turkey and Lebanon from November 27 to December 2. This trip, his first international journey, aims to promote Christian unity and peace in the region.
