The president of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, responded Thursday evening on his Instagram account to a voice message sent by a young internet user named FatimaAs he regularly does on social media, the head of state chose to respond directly to questions addressed to him by citizens. In this particular case, it was a little girl's concern about the risk of war that caught his attention.
In her message, Fatima directly addresses the president and asks him if he can "remove the war"Emmanuel Macron responded to her in a long voice message, both to reassure her and to explain the international situation.
Here is the full exchange:
Fatima: Hello Mr. Macron, I hope you are well.
Can you remove the war, please? Because you opened your mouth too much, I think. And, in fact, I haven't finished living. And I don't want there to be a war.
Emmanuel Macron: Hello, Fatima. I wanted to reply to you. This is Emmanuel Macron. And I also wanted to reply to everyone who sent me voice messages on Instagram.
So, I understand perfectly and I hear your concern. But I wanted to be very clear: you are not going to war at all.
And you will continue to live, perhaps pass your middle school diploma or high school diploma, to learn, to go out, to live freely, to build your future.
And that's all I wish for you in our beautiful country.
What is happening ?
The United States and Israel launched military operations in Iran because Iran had made decisions that were very dangerous for everyone.
It was developing nuclear weapons, it had what are called ballistic weapons, it was destabilizing the region and it had massacred its people.
And in retaliation for the strikes launched by the United States and Israel, Iran is striking the entire region.
So France is not part of this war.
We are not in combat and we are not going to get involved in this war.
But what do we do?
First, we protect our own.
We have several hundred thousand of our compatriots who are there.
We help all those who want to return to come back in peace and safety.
Then we have friends, allies who are being attacked by Iran: the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan.
And there, we help them, like a trusted partner, to protect themselves, to intercept drones, to intercept missiles.
And finally, this war is blocking a large part of world trade, blocking oil and gas.
So it is increasing the cost of living in many economies, creating instability.
And so, in a completely peaceful manner, we are mobilizing to try to secure maritime traffic, to ensure that ships and tankers can leave.
Finally, I would say that there is one last subject: Lebanon, which is also affected today, very destabilized.
We help them regain peace, legitimacy, sovereignty, and calm, at a time when they are currently shaken by this situation.
So, what's happening in the region is very complicated.
But France is not waging war in this region.
She protects the French women and men, her allies.
And she stands with Lebanon and its sovereignty, its territorial integrity, nothing more and nothing less.
So I wanted to reassure you and tell you that we will continue to do this.
I will continue to explain what we are doing.
And we will try to be as reasonable and peaceful as possible, because that is France's role.
Thank you very much, Fatima, and have a good evening.
