A brief response from Seoul

The head of state chose a brief response, avoiding reigniting the controversy. When questioned during his official visit, he closed the matter by stating that he did not wish to respond further to the personal attacks leveled by the American president.

As a reminder, yesterday Donald Trump attacked Emmanuel Macron, mixing personal attacks with political remarks. The American president notably declared: "I called France. Macron is really being mistreated by his wife. He's still recovering from a punch to the jaw."

These remarks referred to a video that went viral in May 2025, filmed upon the arrival of the French presidential couple in Vietnam. After its release, Emmanuel Macron denied having been slapped by his wife and explained that they "were joking" et "were bickering".
