Emmanuel Macron is expected to arrive aboard the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle this afternoon.

The president of the Republic, Emmanuel MacronHe is scheduled to travel this Monday afternoon aboard the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, currently deployed in the eastern Mediterranean. This trip aims to demonstrate the French military presence in the region.

As commander-in-chief, Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to meet with the sailors and pilots serving in the French naval air group. This visit will also allow him to conduct an operational briefing with military leaders on the French deployment in the region and the evolving security situation.

A military deployment in the context of a regional crisis

The presence of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle in the Eastern Mediterranean aims to reinforce the French military deployment decided upon in response to the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Middle East. Paris thus seeks to protect its citizens, its strategic interests, and contribute to the stability of the region.

The French naval air group constitutes one of France's major power projection tools. Around the aircraft carrier operate several escort vessels as well as surveillance and air defence assets, capable of intervening in a wide theatre of operations.

The Charles de Gaulle, center of the French naval deployment

Commissioned in 2001, the Charles de Gaulle is the French Navy's only nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. It allows France to rapidly deploy significant air and naval capabilities far from its territory.

The ship carries, among other things, Rafale Marine fighter jets, air surveillance aircraft, and several helicopters. Thanks to its embarked air group and the ships that accompany it, it can conduct surveillance, deterrence, air strike, or sensitive maritime zone protection missions.

A presidential visit with strong symbolic significance

The President's visit to the aircraft carrier also carries political and symbolic weight. It aims to support the French armed forces deployed in the region and to demonstrate France's ability to rapidly project military resources in an unstable international context.
