Israel strikes Iran, Tehran retaliates
Israel has carried out a series of airstrikes against Iran, targeting nearly 100 sites, including nuclear facilities and military bases. In response, Iran launched drones and ballistic missiles toward Israeli territory. The Israeli military claims to have intercepted all the projectiles.
The Israeli strikes hit several regions, including the Iranian capital. According to local media, they caused significant damage and casualties: several senior Iranian military officials were reportedly killed, including General Hossein Salami, head of the Revolutionary Guards, and General Mohammed Bagheri, chief of staff. Six nuclear experts were also among the victims.
Explosions damaged residential buildings, injuring at least 50 civilians. The Revolutionary Guards command center was also reportedly targeted.
Ankara denounces a "provocation" and calls for de-escalation
Turkey strongly condemned the Israeli strikes, calling them "flagrant violation of international law"Ankara accuses Israel of wanting to torpedo diplomatic efforts while new negotiations on Iranian nuclear power were planned in Istanbul.
"Israel must immediately end its aggressive actions that could lead to new conflicts.", the Turkish Foreign Ministry said, urging the international community to intervene to prevent the war from spreading.
France calls for restraint and diplomacy
In a message posted on X, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot called for restraint and to avoid any escalation. He reiterated France's commitment to protecting its citizens and defending regional stability.
"We reaffirm Israel's right to defend itself against any attack. It is essential that all diplomatic channels be used to defuse tensions.", said the minister, stressing France's constant concern about Iran's nuclear program.
Flights suspended between Paris and Tel Aviv
