The German Foreign Minister, John WadephulHe asserted on Wednesday that he had no doubt about the strength and cohesion of the Atlantic Alliance, assuring that NATO would remain unchanged despite current geopolitical tensions.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Paris with his Indian, French and Polish counterparts, the German foreign minister stressed that the members of the alliance remained united around their common commitments to collective defense.
Johann Wadephul emphasized the central role of the United States within NATO, stating that Washington continued to unequivocally support the defense of the alliance as well as its strategic partnership with Europe.
"I have no doubt whatsoever that we will remain united in the greatest possible unity," he said, adding that the Atlantic Alliance would remain "exactly what it has always been: the most effective defense alliance in the world."
These statements come in an international context marked by the war in Ukraine, debates on the sharing of the military burden between allies and questions raised by certain recent American positions on international commitments.
Berlin thus intends to demonstrate its confidence in the continuity of NATO and in the ability of its members to present a united front against security challenges, while reassuring European partners about the strength of the transatlantic link.
