TF1+ and TFX have announced their collaboration with OnlyMovies to broadcast Skibidi Exfruit, a reality TV show entirely generated by artificial intelligence. This innovative format follows the Skibidi Tentafruit phenomenon, launched between March and April of last year by the same creator. Despite fierce criticism denouncing the content as vulgar and clichéd, these videos garnered tens of millions of views among Generation Alpha and Generation Z. The first episode of this new series marks a first in the history of French television.

A gamble in the face of the decline of traditional television

TF1's gamble comes at a time when traditional reality TV is struggling to attract new viewers. Classic formats, with contestants returning season after season for the past fifteen years, are experiencing a dramatic decline. The network is banking on this hyper-connected form of entertainment to win back a young audience that is massively present on digital platforms. The strategy aims to capture the attention currently held by viral content that is now bypassing conventional audiovisual channels.

Questions about the future of the sector

The introduction of artificially generated content on a long-established channel raises questions about the role of human creators and the editorial quality offered to viewers. While its ratings success has not dispelled the ethical concerns surrounding this controversial format, accused of perpetuating crude stereotypes, TF1 nevertheless stands by this radical choice in order to adapt to new forms of cultural consumption.
