The United Arab Emirates has announced a $1 billion investment to develop artificial intelligence infrastructure and AI-based services across Africa. This initiative aims to support countries on the continent in achieving their national development priorities.

The announcement was made by Minister of State Saeed Bin Mubarak Al Hajeri at the G20 leaders' summit in Johannesburg. He presented the "AI for Development" program, which aims to integrate AI technologies into several key sectors.

The targeted areas include education, health, and climate change adaptation solutions—three sectors where many African countries hope to accelerate their modernization. The UAE believes that AI can play a crucial role in reducing inequalities in access to essential services and improving the effectiveness of public policies.

This investment is also seen as a further sign of the growing interest of Gulf countries in strategic partnerships with Africa, particularly in the technology and energy sectors. The initiative is expected to be rolled out gradually, in cooperation with African governments and institutional stakeholders.
