The Constitutional Council approves the increase in the military budget to 436 billion

The Constitutional Council gave its approval on Wednesday, August 6, to the new military spending bill. The Council members validated the entire government text without striking down a single provision. This law updates the previous military spending plan, setting a budget trajectory that brings the allocation for the armed forces to €436 billion for the period 2024-2030. The institution raised no objections.

A reinforced alert system

The Council's decision comes three months after the parliamentary vote in May, which approved this increase in defense spending. The text reflects the government's desire to strengthen military capabilities in a tense geopolitical context. The overall budget represents a substantial increase compared to previous allocations.

The approved law also introduces a new national security alert system. This system complements existing legal tools for defense and internal security. The legislation can now be promulgated and implemented according to the government's established timeline.
