A particularly ridiculously low offer was spotted in a Carrefour store in the Île-de-France region. A kilo of French apricots was being sold for €2,68 instead of €2,69, an immediate discount of just one cent. The photograph published by L'Œil Grande Conso and @Dauvers70 shows the poster placed directly above the crates of apricots.
One cent discount displayed prominently
The promotional sign uses the classic conventions found in supermarket aisles. The old price of €2,69 is crossed out, while the new price of €2,68 per kilo appears in very large red letters. At the top of the sign, Carrefour clearly states the amount of the discount: "€0,01 instant discount"The fruit is presented as being of French origin. The offer was valid from Tuesday, July 21st to Saturday, July 25th, 2026. There is no doubt about the calculation: the price has indeed decreased by one cent.
You had to buy 100 kilos to save one euro
For every kilogram of apricots purchased, the customer saved €0,01. They needed to buy 10 kilograms to get a 10-cent discount and 100 kilograms to save one euro. For more typical quantities, the benefit became almost negligible. On 500 grams of apricots, the theoretical discount amounted to only half a cent, before rounding was applied to the final price. The price paid could therefore remain the same for some small purchases, despite the advertised promotion in the aisle.
Nothing on the poster suggests an error. The crossed-out price and the new price correspond exactly to the advertised discount.
An offer that was widely mocked
The photograph quickly circulated on social media. Users reacted primarily to the discrepancy between the size of the poster and the small discount. The new price of €2,68 occupied a large portion of the sign, as if for a significant price reduction, while the old price was only one cent higher. The store in question was not specifically identified. Carrefour did not publicly explain whether the discount resulted from a local decision, an automatic price adjustment, or a larger-scale promotion.
