Russian missiles struck a multi-story apartment building on Friday in KharkivIn northeastern Ukraine, an explosion caused the partial collapse of a building, killing at least two people and injuring approximately 25, according to local authorities. Russia denied any attack, claiming the explosion was caused by Ukrainian munitions.
Images circulating online show a devastated area, with smoke rising from the rubble as rescue workers searched through the debris. The regional governor Oleh Syniehubov indicated that the bodies of a woman and her son had been found under the ruins.
Speaking on Ukrainian television, the governor stated that two ballistic missiles had struck the area, "almost destroying a five-story building." He added that rescue teams were continuing their search for any people who might still be buried.
Emergency services confirmed the deployment of additional resources, while 16 of the injured were hospitalized, including a woman in serious condition. Customers were likely in shops and a café on the ground floor at the time of the explosion.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense rejected reports of a strike, calling them "false," and suggested that the explosion was caused by the detonation of Ukrainian munitions.
