The farmers' mobilization reached a new stage overnight with the entry of tractors in ParisDespite the restrictions put in place by the authorities, several agricultural vehicles were spotted at dawn at iconic sites, including the Champs-Élysées and in the vicinity of Eiffel Towermarking a strong symbolic step in this protest movement.
A presence confirmed at dawn
Shortly before 8 a.m., authorities reportedapproximately one hundred tractors present in ParisAccording to reports, convoys managed to cross the southern gates of the capital overnight, bypassing some security checkpoints. Images and eyewitness accounts indicated that several dozen farmers had gathered near the Eiffel Tower, while others attempted to reach the Arc de Triomphe area, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
A crisis unit activated by the government
Faced with this unprecedented situation, an interministerial crisis unit has been activated to monitor the progress of actions taken by farmers in real time. This unit aims to "assess the various actions" and adapt the government's response accordingly. Simultaneously, police and gendarmerie reinforcements have been mobilized and deployed to Paris to contain tractor movements in sensitive areas.
The anger expressed by the Rural Coordination
Bertrand VenteauThe president of the Rural Coordination denounced the impounding of several tractors. While he believes the main objective was achieved with the entry into the capital, he expressed his support for the farmers arrested overnight. He also indicated his desire to meet with the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, and the President of the Senate, Gérard Larcher.
Bans circumvented and arrests made
The prefecture had formally banned the circulation and presence of tractors in several strategic areas of the capital. Despite this, some of the demonstrators managed to reach these areas, leading to several arrests during the night to prevent the convoys from dispersing in the city center.
The farmers are calling for a deliberately visible and symbolic action, intended to raise awareness of their economic and regulatory difficulties. At this stage, the situation remains under close supervisionwith a reinforced security presence around major Parisian thoroughfares and monuments, while the mobilization could still evolve in the coming hours.
