Lufthansa: Pilots call for another strike in Germany

The pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit has called for another strike at Lufthansa on Thursday and Friday, amid ongoing industrial action. This action, the fourth since February, follows an initial mobilization earlier this week.

The strike is expected to affect flights operated by the main airline as well as its subsidiaries CityLine, Eurowings, and the cargo division. Previous strikes resulted in the cancellation of several hundred flights at major German airports, including Frankfurt and Munich.

A conflict centered on wages and pensions

The pilots are denouncing the lack of progress in negotiations with management and are now demanding mediation to try to resolve the conflict. The union states that it wants to reach lasting solutions and avoid further escalation.

For its part, Lufthansa considers some of the demands unrealistic, particularly those concerning pensions. This new strike comes as the group is already facing other industrial action, notably from cabin crew, in a climate of high internal tension.
