A nationwide strike is hitting the SNCF (French National Railway Company) this Wednesday, June 10. The CGT Cheminots, UNSA Ferroviaire, SUD-Rail, and CFDT Cheminots unions have filed a joint strike notice to raise awareness of what they describe as a "state of emergency" within the state-owned company. The unions are denouncing the increase in workplace accidents, the surge in sick leave, and several suicides among employees. This rare inter-union mobilization is expected to cause significant disruptions across the entire French rail network.
One out of every two trains on the Intercités network
Long-distance rail services will be particularly affected. On average, only one in three TGV trains will run, whether it be TGV Inoui, Ouigo, Lyria, or certain European routes. Intercity trains will also be impacted, with approximately half of all services operating, both day and night. TER regional trains and Transilien RER lines will also experience significant cancellations, forcing many passengers to change their journeys or cancel their trips altogether.
SNCF is advising passengers to check real-time traffic information before traveling. Support measures will be offered to passengers affected by these cancellations. This day of action comes amid a tense social climate where unions are demanding concrete answers from management regarding working conditions and occupational risk prevention.
