Lecornu announces a bill against foreign interference before 2027

Sébastien Lecornu convened political leaders at Matignon on Thursday, June 11, to discuss the risks of foreign digital interference in the 2027 presidential election. The Prime Minister spoke of "serious threats" targeting the entire French political class, regardless of affiliation. During this press conference, dedicated to protecting democratic debate, he confirmed the tabling of a bill aimed at securing the election.

A bill this fall

The legislation will be examined by Parliament in the fall. Among the measures under consideration is the creation of new emergency procedures allowing for urgent legal action during election periods. The stated objective remains to provide the authorities with swift legal tools to counter potential attempts to manipulate public opinion by foreign actors.

This initiative comes less than a year before the presidential election, in a context where Western election campaigns are regularly targeted by attempts at digital destabilization. The government is seeking to anticipate scenarios already observed in previous elections in Europe and the United States. The question of democratic sovereignty in the face of external interference is becoming a central issue for the French authorities.
