Just hours before the appointment of his new Prime Minister, Emmanuel Macron convened a meeting at the Élysée Palace this Friday at 14:30 p.m. with the leaders of political parties. According to the presidency, this meeting "must be a moment of collective responsibility." A laconic statement that barely conceals the fragility of the exercise: neither the National Rally, nor La France Insoumise, nor the UDR were invited to this meeting intended to symbolize national unity.
An unprecedented political gap
Seventeen political figures nevertheless responded: Gabriel Attal for Renaissance, François Bayrou et Marc Fesneau for the MoDem, Édouard Philippe et Paul Christophe for Horizons, Herve Marseille for the UDI, Laurent wauquiez et Bruno Retailleau for the Republicans, Olivier Faure et Boris Vallaud for the Socialist Party, Marine Tondelier et Cyrielle Chatelain for the Ecologists, Fabien Roussel et Stephane Peu for the Communist Party, Laurent Panifous for LIOT, William Lacroix for the Left Radical Party and Nathalie Delattre for the Radical Party.
Excluded from the meeting, the members of La France Insoumise (LFI) reacted immediately. "We have no business being at this table," declared Manon Aubry , denouncing their political exclusion. For his part, Senate President Gérard Larcher reiterated his request to participate in the meeting, but has received no response from the Élysée Palace so far. According to several observers, this is a last-ditch effort to forge a majority that has proven elusive before a potential return to the polls.
