Maud Bregeron reveals that a meeting with distributors, in response to rising fuel prices, will take place at the end of the week.

Faced with soaring fuel prices, the government plans to meet with gasoline distributors by the end of the week. Invited on RTL radio this Monday, March 9th, the Minister Delegate for Energy, Maud Bregeon, announced this meeting, organized with the Minister of Industry, Roland Lescure, to review the evolution of prices at the pump.

This meeting comes after the announcement of a series of inspections targeting the entire sector. According to the minister, 500 inspections were carried out in three days to ensure that no one is taking advantage of the current situation. The government wants to ensure there are no unjustified price increases and is calling on professionals to demonstrate "solidarity and ethical conduct."

The war in the Middle East is causing oil prices to surge

The rise in fuel prices is primarily linked to the international situation. The conflict in the Middle East and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 20% of the world's oil passes, have caused significant tension in the markets. The price of a barrel of oil thus exceeded $115 after jumping by about 30% in just a few hours.

For now, no specific aid or price cap is planned for motorists. However, the government maintains that there is no risk of fuel or electricity shortages in France, thanks to diversified supply sources and a fully operational nuclear power plant fleet.
