After a meeting lasting nearly two and a half hours with Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu at Matignon this Wednesday, the inter-union body announced a new day of strikes and mobilization planned for October 2. This decision follows a meeting deemed unsatisfactory by the unions, who deplore the lack of concrete responses to the demands expressed.

Demands that remained unanswered

The unions present at the meeting, including the CFDT, CGT, FO, CFE-CGC, CFTC, UNSA, FSU and Solidaires, had made several specific demands, including the abandonment of the 2023 pension reform, the withdrawal of the 2026 budget proposal, the elimination of 3,000 civil service positions and the doubling of medical deductibles. At the end of the meeting, Marylise Léon, general secretary of the CFDT, expressed on behalf of the inter-union that "The Prime Minister has not provided any clear response to the workers' expectations.", describing the meeting as"missed opportunity".

A mobilization planned for October 2

Faced with this situation, the inter-union has decided to organize a new day of strike and mobilization on October 2. This date must still be confirmed at the end of the day by the authorities of each union organization.

This meeting takes place in a complex political context. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, appointed on September 10, has still not formed a government, fueling political and social tensions. Moreover, unions had already expressed their discontent during the September 18 day of mobilization, where more than 500,000 people demonstrated against austerity and for tax justice.

The CGT demands "pre-answers"to meet social requirements"

Sophie Binet, general secretary of the CGT, stressed that the unions were “determined and united ", calling for “precise responses to social demands”She also clarified that the inter-union had not come for "to get out of it for sure by saying that we are calling for a new day", but in the hope of obtaining "enough elements" from the Prime Minister.
