Emmanuel Macron On Monday, he will travel to his hometown of Amiens, in the Somme region, where he will visit the Goodyear factory and the city's university hospital. This trip will focus on industry and healthcare, two sectors at the heart of the government's priorities since the launch of the France 2030 plan.
The first stop on this presidential visit will take the head of state to the Goodyear industrial site, one of the country's main private employers. The Élysée Palace emphasizes that this visit aims to highlight the investments made in recent years to modernize the factory, supported in particular by the France 2030 program. The project has enabled the automation of part of the production, increased the site's industrial capacity, and strengthened its competitiveness in the European market.
A factory marked by a difficult social past
Goodyear's recent history in Amiens remains deeply marked by a labor dispute that lasted more than six years. In the early 2010s, the American group undertook a major restructuring of its operations in the region. The closure of one of the two Amiens sites in 2014 resulted in the loss of over a thousand jobs and sparked strong union mobilization.
This case had a lasting impact on the French industrial landscape. Several years after the site's closure, the group was found guilty of wrongful dismissal by the labor court in May 2020. Since then, the company has embarked on a new phase of industrial development aimed at consolidating its operations in the region and securing jobs at the still-operational site.
A modernization supported by France 2030
According to the Élysée Palace, the investments made have created 120 additional jobs thanks to the installation of a new production line. This transformation is part of the government's strategy to promote the country's reindustrialization and support businesses in their technological transition.
The presidential visit is also intended to showcase the results of the France 2030 program, endowed with tens of billions of euros to support innovation, industrial modernization, and strategic sectors. The government regularly highlights these types of projects to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening French economic sovereignty in the face of international competition.
A stage dedicated to health at the Amiens University Hospital
After his visit to the Goodyear factory, Emmanuel Macron will go to the Amiens University Hospital. More specifically, the president will visit the Institute for Neurodevelopmental Disorders, a facility specializing in the care of children and adolescents with disorders such as autism, attention deficit disorders, or certain learning difficulties.
On this occasion, the President is expected to reaffirm the importance of early detection and support for families. The Élysée Palace indicates that he will emphasize the need to accelerate the identification of these disorders in order to improve care pathways and the chances of academic and social success for the children affected.
A trip with strong symbolic significance
This presidential return to Amiens also has a personal dimension. Emmanuel Macron was born in the Picardy capital and completed much of his schooling there before continuing his studies in Paris. Every visit to his hometown is therefore observed with particular attention, both politically and in the media.
With less than a year to go before the 2027 presidential election, this visit will also allow the government to highlight its actions in support of industry and healthcare, two major themes in the public debate. Between reindustrialization, employment, and support for the most vulnerable, the president intends to concretely illustrate the priorities his government has championed for several years.
