Dominique de Villepin proposes the creation of a specialized prosecutor's office for violence against women and children.

Appearing on the BFMTV/La Tribune program on Sunday, Dominique de Villepin advocated for the creation of a national prosecutor's office specializing in combating violence against women and children. The former Prime Minister believes that the justice system must be equipped with tools comparable to those used to fight terrorism or organized crime in order to better handle these often complex and recurring cases.

According to him, establishing a dedicated structure would clearly affirm the priority given to these acts of violence in legal proceedings. "We must clearly establish a priority," he declared, emphasizing the need for a more coherent and effective response to phenomena that continue to affect thousands of victims each year in France.

A more coordinated justice system

Dominique de Villepin believes that a specialized prosecutor's office would offer better centralization of the most sensitive cases. Like the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office or the National Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime, this new institution could coordinate investigations, harmonize judicial practices, and strengthen the monitoring of cases across the country.

The former head of government believes that this organization would also allow for the development of specific expertise among magistrates and investigators, while improving support for victims, who often face long and difficult procedures.

A debate has been reignited regarding the judicial response.

This proposal comes at a time when the issue of domestic and sexual violence remains at the heart of public debate. For years, several associations have been calling for increased resources for the justice system and better support for victims, particularly in terms of protection, listening, and preventing recidivism.

While the creation of a specialized prosecutor's office would require legislative reform and additional personnel, the idea could fuel discussions on the evolution of French criminal policy as the next elections approach. For Dominique de Villepin, the fight against violence against women and children must now be considered a national priority comparable to that given to the fight against terrorism.
