On the eve of the June 6 commemorations, two members of the government are expected in Calvados this Thursday, June 5. Nathalie Delattre, Minister of Tourism, and Patricia Miralles, Minister Delegate for Veterans Affairs, will travel to Arromanches to sign an agreement on the development of memorial tourism in emblematic D-Day landing sites.
Memory of Allied soldiers and tribute to the Poles
The tour will begin at the D-Day Museum, before stopping at the Juno Beach Centre in Courseulles-sur-Mer, dedicated to the Canadian contribution. In the afternoon, Patricia Miralles will pay tribute to the 615 Polish soldiers buried at the Urville-Langannerie Military Cemetery, the only Polish necropolis in France. She will conclude the day with an evening ceremony in Bénouville attended by British veterans.
These visits are part of the ceremonies marking the 81st anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy. The minister will continue her visits on Friday, June 6, with a tribute to the Kieffer commando, followed by an intergenerational transmission ceremony in Caen.
