Formula E: Nick Cassidy gives Citroën a podium finish in the very first race

In its very first appearance in the Formula E World Championship, Citroën didn't wait long to make its mark. Nick Cassidy, recruited to support the French manufacturer's debut in the discipline, secured a first podium finish for the brand with a solid third place at the São Paulo E-Prix, won by Jake Dennis (Andretti) ahead of Oliver Rowland (Nissan).

A completely crazy finish

The race, relatively stable until then, turned on its head on lap 23 after a collision between Edoardo Mortara (Mahindra) and Lucas Di Grassi (Lola). The safety car intervention tightened the field, placing Rowland, Cassidy, and Dennis at the front. Dennis, the only one of the top six not yet to have activated his second Attack Mode, took full advantage of the restart: by engaging four-wheel drive on lap 27, he took the lead decisively and cruised to victory, his seventh career win.

The end of the race was marred by a spectacular accident. In the confusion of a full course yellow, Josep Maria Marti (Cupra) crashed violently into the back of the pack, becoming airborne before rolling several times, his car even catching fire. More of a scare than anything else, but a red flag brought the race to a standstill for about fifteen minutes.

Restarted for a final lap, the race saw no further major changes. While Citroën celebrated its first podium finish thanks to Cassidy, the French drivers were less fortunate: Jean-Éric Vergne (Citroën) and Norman Nato (Nissan) were forced to retire.
