Olympique de Marseille is preparing to open a new chapter in its visual identity. According to information from ProvenceThe club is set to officially unveil its new logo on April 8th at a gala dinner linked to the "Thirteenth Man" program, which the OM official website describes as the club's social and environmental arm. This redesign will mark the end of the crest used since 2004.
The project was launched as part of a modernization effort initiated under Pablo Longoria and Medhi Benatia, while preserving the club's most recognizable symbols. The monogram would be more rounded, in a style reminiscent of Marseille's older logos, particularly those from the 1935-1972 period, while the star above the emblem and the motto "Droit au but" (Straight to the goal) would remain. The star commemorates OM's 1993 Champions League victory, the only European title won by a French club at this level.
The first images were met with strong protests on X
Even before its official unveiling, the image attributed to the future logo has already sparked numerous reactions on X. Reactions include: "between wanting to cry and wanting to vomit", "disgusting" Ou "It looks like the old one that melted in the sun."
In Marseille, altering the logo is tantamount to altering a symbol of identity.
The reason this leak has generated so much discussion is also because, in Marseille, the crest is far more than just a graphic design. The current logo, unchanged since 2004, is one of the most enduring in the club's history. For several years, some supporters have been calling for a refresh of an emblem associated, for some of them, with a less glorious period in the club's sporting history. The official announcement on April 8th will therefore have to determine whether the images already released correspond to the final version and whether this rebranding can ultimately be adopted by the Marseille community.
A highly anticipated official presentation
As it stands, no direct announcement from the club has yet publicly confirmed the final version of the future crest. But everything points to a meeting on April 8th. Will the criticisms have been heard by then? We'll know soon enough…
