Paris Saint-Germain are the French champions. The capital club secured their 14th national title with a 2-0 victory over RC Lens on Wednesday evening at the Bollaert-Delelis stadium, in a rescheduled match from the 29th round of Ligue 1.
Already top of the table before kickoff, Paris needed only a point to officially clinch the title. Luis Enrique's men did even better: they won away against their closest rivals, in a direct clash, and ended the suspense before the final matchday.
Kvaratskhelia launches Paris
PSG took the lead in the 29th minute thanks to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Largely anonymous until then, the Parisian striker capitalized on a Lens error near the penalty area to open the scoring and put Paris on the path to the title.
Lens pressed forward for a long time. The Blood and Gold played with intensity, created several chances, and forced Matvey Safonov to remain alert. But Lens lacked precision in the final pass, allowing Paris to maintain their lead.
Mbaye seals the title
Late in the game, PSG definitively sealed the victory. Substitute Ibrahim Mbaye scored PSG's second goal in stoppage time, in the 93rd minute, with a shot that secured the win and the title.
A 14th title, a confirmed dominance
With this victory, PSG brings its total to 76 points and maintains a decisive lead over Lens, who remain on 67 points. Paris thus confirms its dominance in Ligue 1 and adds another title to its impressive record. This 14th French league title further solidifies PSG's status as the most decorated club in the history of the championship. For Lens, the defeat is frustrating, but it doesn't detract from a solid season. Paris was simply the better team!
