Habib Beye appointed coach of Olympique de Marseille

Olympique de Marseille officially announced yesterday the appointment of Habib Beye as first-team coach, replacing Roberto De Zerbi, who left last week after a series of disappointing results and a heavy defeat in Ligue 1. Beye's contract runs until June 2027.

A symbolic return

Habib Beye, former Senegalese international, returns to a club he knows intimately, having played there from 2003 to 2007. Captain at the time, he made a lasting impression on the fans with his leadership and commitment on the pitch. This appointment thus marks a return to his roots, but this time in a crucial strategic role for OM's sporting future.

After his playing career, Beye embarked on a coaching career, passing through Red Star FC and then Stade Rennais, from which he was recently dismissed.

Immediate objectives

Marseille, currently fourth in the league, are looking to revitalize their squad and regain their podium form. Beye will also need to aim for success in the Coupe de France, a competition in which the club remains involved. According to the sporting management, his main role will be to "to quickly get back on the winning track, aim for a place on the podium and try to win the French Cup."

The first match under the Beye era is scheduled for Friday evening against Stade Brestois 29 in Ligue 1.
