As night falls, the Jardin d'Acclimatation transforms into a magical setting with a new illuminated trail entirely dedicated to Japan. Until March 8, 2026, this nighttime stroll invites visitors to explore over a thousand years of Japanese history and imagination through lanterns, monumental installations, and immersive scenes.
A journey in three parts between tradition and pop culture
Entitled "Japan in Lights," this luminous festival marks the third edition of the Jardin d'Acclimatation's Lantern Festival. According to France Télévisions, nearly 2,000 lanterns make up this promenade, conceived as a three-stage journey. The route opens with "The Empire of Traditions," a tribute to ancestral Japan featuring monumental torii gates, samurai silhouettes, kimonos, and silk parasols, all within an atmosphere inspired by Shinto and Buddhist temples.
The walk then shifts into a pop-modern odyssey, a colorful immersion into contemporary Japan. Manga, kawaii creatures, urban neon lights, and arcade game worlds evoke the creative energy of Tokyo and current popular culture. Some installations have been designed to be interactive, allowing visitors to become part of the scenery and extend the experience.
A sensory immersion designed for all audiences
The journey concludes in the Garden of Dreams, a more contemplative space dedicated to Japanese nature. Cherry blossoms, koi carp, and a luminous representation of Mount Fuji create a soothing finale, designed as a respite from the urban bustle. According to France Télévisions, this final section features a gentle and poetic scenography, intended to bring the visit to a serene close.
Accessible from nightfall, Japan in Lights appeals to both families and those who enjoy cultural outings. By blending historical references, contemporary aesthetics, and immersive installations, the Jardin d'Acclimatation offers one of the most captivating light shows of the winter season in Paris.
