Meghan Markle says she has endured 10 years of online attacks since her relationship with Prince Harry

Meghan Markle said on Thursday that she had been the target of online attacks for 10 years, during an exchange with young participants organized by the Australian association Batyr, which specializes in mental health.

The intervention took place at Swinburne University of Technology, in Hawthorn, in the Melbourne metropolitan area, on the third day of the couple's Australian trip.

"Harassed" et "attacked" for a decade

Addressing the young people present, the Duchess of Sussex stated that she had been "harassed" et "attacked" continuously since the beginning of her relationship with Prince Harry.

She also stated that she had been, at one time, "The most trolled person in the world."

A discussion focused on the effects of social media

This statement was made during a discussion devoted to the consequences of social media on the mental health of young people.

Batyr is an Australian organization committed to prevention, early intervention and reducing stigma related to mental health disorders in young people.

Prince Harry welcomes Australian legislation

During the same exchange, Prince Harry praised Australia's decision to ban under-16s from using social media.

He described the measure as a leadership initiative, while clarifying that he was not present to debate the merits of the ban.

A law that came into effect in December 2025

Australia became the first country to adopt such a ban in December 2025. The measure specifically targets TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are undertaking a four-day trip to Australia. The program includes several public engagements related to mental health, veterans, and their philanthropic activities.

For several years, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have regularly spoken out about the effects of online harassment and the consequences of digital use on mental health.
