A mural honoring Louise Michel was vandalized on Thursday in Trélissac, Dordogne. The damage, discovered the following day, included a Star of David drawn on the historical figure's forehead, along with several anti-feminist slogans. Mayor Éric Fallous announced that a complaint had been filed and condemned these acts in the strongest possible terms.
An act of deliberate vandalism
The perpetrators of this vandalism targeted a work celebrating one of the emblematic figures of the Paris Commune, an activist for women's rights and secular education. The sheer number of hateful inscriptions reveals deliberate vandalism, combining antisemitism and antifeminist rhetoric on the same artistic medium.
The municipality has confirmed that it will pursue legal action. This vandalism comes amid a backdrop of antisemitic acts and symbolic violence against women, which remain major concerns for local authorities.
