A tram crashed into a wall in the immediate vicinity of Strasbourg's central station on Tuesday morning, causing two minor injuries, according to the Strasbourg transport company.
The accident occurred around 8:45 a.m. when a train on line C failed to stop at its terminus and continued on its way until it collided with an obstacle at the end of the track. The incident took place in an area that is usually very busy during rush hour.
The driver was reported to have been unwell
According to initial reports, the driver suffered a medical episode upon arrival at the station, which would explain the lack of braking. He was quickly attended to by emergency services and escaped the accident unharmed but in a state of shock, as were the two other people who sustained minor injuries and were also treated at the scene.
Traffic was suspended at the station and at a stop upstream to allow technical teams to intervene and remove the damaged train. Authorities indicated that a gradual return to normal service was expected throughout the day, while an investigation was underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
