A spectacular fire in the Yvelines region causes a huge plume of smoke

A major fire broke out Friday evening at an industrial site in Les Loges-en-Josas, Yvelines, causing an impressive plume of black smoke visible for several kilometers around, including from parts of Paris. The fire required the mobilization of around one hundred firefighters and a large-scale rescue operation.

The fire broke out around 7:15 p.m. in the Trou Salé industrial park, between Guyancourt and Saclay. According to emergency services, several interconnected industrial buildings were affected, including facilities related to carpentry and waste recycling. More than 2,000 square meters were reportedly destroyed by the flames during the evening.

Around a hundred firefighters were mobilized throughout the night.

Faced with the scale of the fire, firefighters in the Yvelines department deployed nearly 100 personnel, supported by 36 vehicles and several water hoses to prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes. Emergency services planned to maintain a presence on site throughout the night to ensure the area was completely secure.

Neighboring towns quickly urged residents to be cautious due to the thick smoke that spread throughout the area. Despite the size of the blaze, emergency services indicated Friday evening that they had no cause for concern regarding air quality or the immediate presence of hazardous substances in the smoke plume.

A spectacular new fire in the Paris region

This fire comes just days after another spectacular blaze near Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport, where a warehouse had already released a huge column of smoke visible for dozens of kilometers.

The exact cause of the fire in Les Loges-en-Josas was still unknown Friday evening. An investigation will determine the origin of the fire and the full extent of the material damage caused.
