A 17-year-old boy drowned Monday afternoon in Noisiel, in the Marne River, according to emergency services. The tragedy comes just two days after another fatal drowning involving a boy of the same age in the Seine-et-Marne department.
According to the Seine-et-Marne Departmental Fire and Rescue Service, the victim was part of a group of young people from Seine-Saint-Denis. The young man was reportedly seen going under by his friends while he was about twenty meters from the bank.
Another drowning in the context of extreme heat
Emergency services arrived quickly at the scene after witnesses alerted them, but the teenager could not be revived. The exact circumstances of the tragedy are still under investigation.
For several days, authorities have been warning about the risks of swimming in unsupervised rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water, as the intense heat drives many young people to seek out cooler spots. Drownings regularly increase during periods of early heat, particularly in areas where swimming is prohibited or dangerous.
