Tensions in Morbihan after an illegal rave; several police officers injured

A police intervention escalated into violence overnight Saturday to Sunday at an illegal rave party in Monteneuf, Morbihan. According to the prefecture, three riot police officers were injured in clashes that occurred on the fringes of the gathering, while one person was arrested and taken into custody.

The gathering, banned by prefectural decree, brought together several hundred participants in an isolated area. Authorities say tensions erupted during the first attempts by gendarmes deployed overnight to control and secure the site.

A large-scale evacuation operation launched by the prefecture

Faced with the continuation of the party despite orders from the authorities, the prefect of Morbihan ordered the complete evacuation of the site on Sunday evening. An operation mobilizing approximately 80 gendarmes was still underway to disperse the participants and carry out various checks on site.

The prefecture specifies that several fines and seizures have already been issued, notably for drug possession and various offenses related to the organization of this illegal gathering. Law enforcement has also begun checking vehicles present in the vicinity of the rave party.

Free parties remain under close surveillance

Underground techno gatherings have been under close scrutiny by French authorities for several years, particularly following several fatal accidents and incidents at previous free parties. Prefects now have enhanced powers to ban these events and seize sound equipment.

The festivals continue to attract large crowds despite the legal risks and police presence. Organizers regularly denounce excessive repression, while authorities emphasize security concerns, health risks, and the disruption caused to local residents.
