Exceptional cocaine seizure on the A7 motorway after a truck was stopped for inspection

French customs officials intercepted a shipment of over a ton of cocaine hidden in a truck traveling on the A7 motorway near the Vienne toll plaza at the end of March. This operation is one of the largest seizures made on the national road network in recent years.

The vehicle, registered in the Netherlands and originating from the Iberian Peninsula, was officially transporting potting soil destined for Belgium. The unusual behavior of the convoy, particularly the presence of several people on board, led officers to conduct a thorough inspection.

A shipment concealed in bags of potting soil

Inside the truck, investigators discovered nearly a thousand packages of cocaine hidden in large bags. The high-purity drugs have an estimated street value of tens of millions of euros, which could increase after resale on the market.

Three individuals were arrested, including two drivers and a third person responsible for monitoring the transport. One of the suspects was already known to police in connection with a drug trafficking case abroad.

A strategic axis for international traffic

This seizure highlights the increasing use of major road routes for large-scale drug trafficking, in addition to maritime routes. The A7 motorway, linking southern and northern Europe, constitutes a key corridor for the flow of goods.

Authorities emphasize the still rare nature of such large quantities intercepted on the road, while also suggesting a possible evolution in the methods of criminal networks. The investigation continues to identify the organization behind this convoy.
