Martinique: Air France flight forced to return to Fort-de-France after engine trouble

An Air France Boeing 777 flying from Fort-de-France to Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle had to turn back shortly after takeoff on the evening of February 21st, following a technical incident with one of its engines. No injuries were reported among the 469 passengers and crew members.

Flight AF895 had just departed Aimé Césaire Airport when an engine surge occurred in the right engine. This malfunction corresponds to poor airflow within the engine, resulting in irregular combustion and visible detonations in the form of flames. According to the captain, it was a dramatic incident but generally less dangerous than a serious engine failure.

There is serious concern on board

Witnesses on the ground reported hearing explosions shortly after takeoff. On board, some passengers described sparks and repeated noises, causing considerable alarm. The crew immediately implemented the procedures established by the manufacturer and the airline, deciding as a precaution to return to their home airport.

After approximately 25 minutes of flight, the aircraft landed without incident in Fort-de-France. Air France stated that its crews receive regular training in managing this type of event and that safety remains its top priority.

The passengers were taken care of at the airport and the company plans to send another plane to ensure their re-routing to Paris.
