A disappearance in Fleurance
Eleven-year-old Lyhanna disappeared on Friday, May 29, in Fleurance, Gers. She was last seen after leaving school. Investigators focused on a 41-year-old man, the father of one of the victim's friends. CCTV footage and a witness statement placed the schoolgirl in his car. The man admitted to driving her but claimed he dropped her off near the Fleurance municipal swimming pool. He was charged with kidnapping and unlawful confinement of a minor under 15 and placed in pretrial detention.
The body was found in a silo
On Thursday, June 4, a child's body was discovered in an abandoned agricultural silo in Puycasquier, about fifteen kilometers from Fleurance. On Friday, June 5, the Agen prosecutor's office confirmed that DNA analysis had formally identified Lyhanna. The cause of death has not yet been established. The prosecutor indicated that forensic pathologists were unable to determine it at this stage. Further examinations have been ordered.
Previous proceedings targeting the suspect
Before Lyhanna's disappearance, the main suspect had already been mentioned in several legal proceedings. A complaint for rape of a minor, concerning alleged events dating back to 2020, was dismissed in 2024 due to insufficient evidence. Another complaint was filed in August 2025 for alleged repeated rapes of a minor. The case was forwarded to the public prosecutor's office in Auch. The suspect had not been questioned in this case before Lyhanna's disappearance. A further report, in March 2026, concerned alleged inappropriate touching of an 11-year-old girl. A complaint was subsequently filed in early June.
